has the privilege of having almost universal access to the coast. With the exception of some ecologically sensitive areas and isolated government facilities, anything below the high tide line is open to the public.Even in places where private homes and businesses dominate the horizon, you'll find public rights of way and easements that allow access to the beach. The beaches of San Diego are free to enjoy. State beaches such as Silver Strand in Coronado and Carlsbad State Beach charge fees for parking on the lots. However, you may need to park in a paid public parking lot near any beach during peak season, as free lots and street parking fill up.
Currently, beaches in 11 counties are open with some restrictions. There are four counties whose beaches are open. Alcohol is not allowed on any beach in San Diego, except at Del Beach, which is part of the Hotel del Coronado, and on the private beach in front of La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Most day visitors to Coronado who want to go to the beach usually go to Coronado Central Beach, opposite the Hotel del Coronado.

You'll find San Onofre State Beach north of Oceanside, past Camp Pendleton, in the northernmost part of San Diego County, and partly also in San Clemente, which is located in Orange County. In shallow water on sandy beaches, move your feet over the bottom as you walk instead of lifting them up. Nobody enjoys the beach more than a dog, and it's a shame that so few beaches in San Diego allow it. Because the San Mateo stream flows into the ocean on one side of the camp, there are wetlands here with rare and endangered species.

You may also be lucky enough to see dolphins and porpoises playing in the waves of San Diego beaches, and California gray whales coming out at all costs as they migrate south in winter. Huntington Beach is one of the best beaches between San Diego and Los Angeles for experiencing surf culture, going to the beach, and amenities such as concessions and rentals.
